Who are we?
Supported by 23 churches and 6 Sunday School Classes, DOC-UP is a non-profit organization comprised of numerous denominations and compassionate individuals who contribute regularly to this ministry. Our current budget is $256,000. Click here to read an article from the Rome Times about who we are!
Where are we?
Currently we are located at 511 Valley Drive in a duplex generously provided by the First United Methodist Church. Find us at the corner of Valley Drive and Emery Street.
When are we open?
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 9:00-11:30. Clients call 706.529.9000, our designated line, to schedule appointments. Emergency cases are handled as time and monies permit.
What is required?
Clients must be residents of Whitfield County/Dalton and bring their government-issued identification cards (e.g., driver’s license), the Social Security card of every member of their household, and proof of income. Utility bills with the kilowatt hours listed, a completed landlord form (available at DOC-UP), or a doctor’s prescription(s) are also required.
How many clients do you assist?
We interview 10-14 families per day, 3 days a week. Clients may be assisted once per year for a total of 3 years to avoid client dependence.
How do you operate?
On a shoestring budget! We depend on volunteers who opt for one of several opportunities to serve: greeting clients, assisting with applications, interviewing clients, and scheduling appointments on our designated phone line.
What do you need most?
You guessed it! Money and volunteers. The more money we have, the more families we can assist. The more volunteers we have, the better able we are to handle the growing number of clients. $4.00 will pay for a generic prescription; $125 can pay a rent bill or utility bill.
