Dr. William J. (Bill) Ireland, Jr.

Senior Pastor


Bill is a native of Greenville, Mississippi.  He received his Master of Divinity and PhD degree in New Testament Language and Literature and Systematic Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He has served numerous churches across the southeast including churches in the states of Mississippi, Kentucky, Louisiana, Georgia, and North Carolina.  

He and his wife, Virginia, have one daughter, Mary Virginia.

Phillip Cannon
Associate Pastor
 
A native of Albany, GA, Phillip is a graduate of Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia. In 1983, he graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky with a Master of Divinity in Religious Education. His experience includes Minister of Education in Tuscumbia, Alabama before he joined First Baptist Dalton in 1986. Phillip has continued to accept increasing responsibilities at F.B.C.D. including serving as Executive Director of First Foundation, Inc.

Phillip's wife, Patti, is a graduate of Shorter College. Patti also serves on our staff as Church Pianist.
 
Phillip and Patti have three children, Caroline, Rebekah and Chandler.  They also have one grandson, Gabe.

Susan Deal
Minister of Music and Worship
 
A native of Texas, Susan grew up in Alabama.  She is a graduate of Samford University with a Bachelor of Music Education and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she earned a Master of Music Degree in Church Music, with a concentration in conducting  Susan has served churches in Virginia and Florida. 
 
Susan and her husband, Tommy, have two grown sons.  Ragan is the Associate Pastor of a church in Kansas and William is a Master of Divinity student at McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta.  Susan joined First Baptist in 2011.

  Kristina Brown Callaway
Interim Director of Preschool Ministries
 
Kristina Callaway serves as the Interim Preschool Director at First Baptist, ministering to the church's youngest people and their families. She graduated from the University of South Carolina and brings seven years of preschool and youth experience to the ministry of the church. Kristina is a full time mother to her sons, Jackson and Grant, though most of her labor is spent dealing with her husband, Curtis. She is fluent in Spanish, and enjoys baking and "reading" audio books in her free time.

  Bridgette Flanagan Poag
Director of Ministries to Children and Their Families
Bridgette is a native of Dalton, Georgia and a graduate of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She has served as a Children's Minister at Manly Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, Virginia prior to moving back to Dalton. Bridgette and her husband, Preston, have three children, Alexis, Pressley, and Preston Jr.   Bridgette became Director of Ministries to Children in February 2012.

  Derrell Grantham
Minister of Activities and Senior Adults
 
Derrell is a native of Mississippi and a graduate of Columbus (GA) College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he received a Masters in Religious Education.  His experience includes work with the Boy's Clubs of America in Georgia and Louisiana and he has served on staff at First Baptist in Mandeville, Louisiana and First Baptist in Ruston, Louisiana. Derrell came to First Baptist Dalton in 1988.
 
Derrell is married to the former Susan Rogers.  He has one daughter, Susanna, who is an elementary school teacher in the Atlanta area.

  Christian Byrd
Minister to Youth and Students

Christian is a native of Mississippi and a graduate of the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS.  In 2007, he received a Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.  He served as a pastoral and ministry intern in Alabama and worked with Passport, Inc. before joining First Baptist Church, Dalton, in 2008.  Christian and his wife, Jennifer, have one daughter, Mary Elise.

Courtney Allen
Minister of Community Ministry and Missions

Courtney is a native of Jackson, Mississippi and is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a degree in Religious Studies and Sociology.   She is also a graduate of the Wake Forest School of Divinity in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Courtney has served churches in Mississippi and North Carolina.  She also served as a Katrina Rebuilding Coordinator in Gulfport, Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina.

  Debra Garner Haney
Assistant to Senior Pastor/Administrator of Facilities and Food Services 
Debra is a graduate of Dalton Junior College and West Georgia College.  She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in management. A Georgia native, Debra grew up in Macon and Decatur. She joined the church staff in February, 2004 after 26 years with regional banks.  In 2008, she received the designation of Certified Church Administrator (CCA) from The National Association of Church Business Administration.
 
Debra is married to Don Haney. They have one adult son, Ryan.
