How to Join

Joining our fellowship is as simple as walking down the aisle during the invitation portion of our services. At this time, one of our Ministers will be standing in the front of our sanctuary, and will talk with you privately about the decision you are making. There are three essential elements to these decisions, Faith, Baptism, and Membership. We accept members by Profession of Faith, Statement of Faith, or by Transfer of Letter.

Profession of Faith

If you've never had a personal experience or believed that Jesus Christ is your Savior, you would first express your belief in Him by becoming a Christian. We believe that this choice is too personal to be made for you at birth, or as part of a group, too personal to describe on a web site. Being a Christian means that you believe that Jesus is God's only Son, who came and died for your sins; that you need the forgiveness only God can offer; that you want to live by Jesus' example because you hold these beliefs. Please contact us for more information on becoming a Christian. After becoming a Christian, you may become a member of our church by being Baptized, or immersed in the pool inside our Sanctuary.

Statement of Faith

If you have belonged to a church of another denomination, you may join our fellowship through your statement of faith in Jesus Christ at one of our services which would allow you to become a candidate for baptism (by immersion) and a member of First Baptist Church Dalton.

Transfer of Letter

If you wish to move your membership from another Baptist Church, request to join by "transfer of letter." We will obtain a letter by contacting your previous church family.

What is the meaning of Baptism?

Baptism is a way to follow the example of Christ. The act was so important that Christ sought "John the Baptist" to fulfill his need to be Baptized.

Baptism is a symbol of New Life. Through immersion, we are "buried with Christ in Baptism, and raised to walk with New Life." Again we emulate Christ's example of being buried, conquering death and beginning a new, richer Eternal Life.

Baptism is a public commitment to faith in Jesus Christ. The act of being Baptized and expressing your faith in front of others is a humbling experience that helps to solidify your commitment, and gives others the opportunity to share the journey of faith with you.
